"A Philosophy of Suffering"

Any religion or philosophy of life has to respond to the human experience of pain. Religions have tried to deny its reality, to eliminate it by suppressing desire, to affirm it by promising rewards in a future life, or to accept it as divine justice. The Torah portion for this week, "Ki Tavo"-Deuteronomy 26:1-29:8, demonstrates how our ancestors made sense of suffering, and we Humanists need to answer this very human need.
