Community Service Opportunities

At the Community Service Committee's annual summer planning meeting, the committee set the following activities for the 2011-12 congregational year. Many of our efforts continue our commitment to provide support to A Safe Place, the Waukegan shelter and agency that aids women and children affected by domestic violence.  To find out more about these activities or to join the committee, contact co-chairs Marcie Cottle or Sue Addelson.

September/October

High Holiday Collection for A Safe Place is a dual-purpose collection. We are collecting items for their Holiday Wish List as well as for their general needs. We need several volunteer cars to collect the donations at both adult YK services and also volunteers to drive the donations to A Safe Place in Waukegan.

October 29

A Safe Place is holding its annual Unmask the Violence Gala and Casino Night. Six Kol Hadashians have volunteered to help run the casino games.

October/November

Kol Hadash members will volunteer at A Safe Place to help organize and set up their Holiday Store between October 31 and November 23. The Holiday Store is where their clients and their children go to shop for free for holiday gifts.

December

Our Winter Holiday Collection this year is for The Ark, a Jewish social service agency in Chicago. We will be collecting non-perishable foods and other items.

Spring/Summer 2012

Again this year, we will be serving at the Beth Emet Soup Kitchen, once in the spring and once in the summer. This is a great activity for members of all ages and a very good family outing. Dates to be announced
