Community Service Committee

The Kol Hadash Community Service Committee works hard to organize activities for Kol Hadash members to make a positive change in our community and to make members aware of other ways they can contribute to helping those in need. If you'd like to get involved, contact committee chair Susan Addelson (info@KolHadash.com).

Here is a report on the committee's 2009-10 annual planning meeting:

A Successful and Delicious Annual Planning Meeting

Turkey breast with cranberries. Not-too-hot wings. Fresh salads. Dips. Pasta. Fresh breads. Fruit. Soft, chewy cookies. The tasty food and lively conversation at the Community Service Committee’s annual potluck dinner was so enjoyable we almost hated to get down to business. But we successfully planned our High Holiday collection and other 2009-10 programs. Thank you to Joyce Hirsch for hosting this wonderful and productive evening!

Simplified High Holiday Collection

While Kol Hadash members have a choice of whether to fast or not on Yom Kippur, many people in our communities go hungry out of necessity. At the Yom Kippur Evening and Family services September 27-28, we will be collecting food to support local food pantries. To make it easier for people who want to donate, we will distribute grocery bags with a list of the pantries’ most-needed items at Rosh Hashana, and then at Yom Kippur services we will have vans for people to drop off their food. Volunteers are needed to help make our food collection a success:

·       2 volunteers at each Rosh Hashana service to distribute/pick up bags before and after the services;

·       2 SUVs or vans for food collection at each Yom Kipput service;

·       2 or 3 drivers to deliver the food to the food pantries.
