There are many ways today’s Jewish families approach holidays of the winter solstice. Some hunker down for Hanukkah and grumble through Christmas season. Some have an extra-festive Hanukkah to compete. Some have celebrated American Xmas as a secular holiday for generations. And some, in an era of intermarriage and mixed families, observe both: one at a time at their separate dates, or together with dreidels on the tree. What do you choose, and why?
