Tonight is the beginning of the Hebrew month of Av, defined by the arrival of a new moon (as is every Jewish month or “moonth”). Our ancestors took the moon very seriously, but should we? And what elements of the traditional “Rosh Hodesh”, or beginning of the month, still resonate for Humanistic Jews.
