Special Events

In addition to our regular programs, we also look forward to connecting
with each other through our special events.

Progressive Dinner

The social event of the year! These themed evenings start at one member’s home for appetizers. Then we drive to other members’ homes for small-group catered dinner parties. Finally, we come back together at yet another member’s home for coffee and dessert. Past themes have included A Taste of Italy, TV Sitcoms, Superheroes and Supervillians, The Beatles, Chicago is My Kind of Town, and Happy Days are Here Again. The Progressive Dinner is a great way to get to know Kol Hadash members in a social setting!

Annual FUNdraiser Event

The other social event of the year puts the FUN in FUNdraiser! Every summer, adult members gather for an unique evening out with dinner and a special performance or activity. Past FUNdraisers have included performances by professional storytellers, bocce ball, a private concert by the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band, and a mostly unprofessional talent show. Although the event is a FUNdraiser, there are multi-level ticket prices so that everyone can comfortably attend.

Taste of Kol Hadash

Every winter, Kol Hadash members cook memorable family recipes—from any generation and from any culture. They serve their dish (in bite-size portions) to our Sunday School students, members, and guests, while explaining the family history of the recipe. It’s hard to beat learning about family history while tasting delicious foods! Check out our 2019 Taste of Kol Hadash Cookbook , 2020 Taste of Kol Hadash Cookbook, 2022 Taste of Kol Hadash Cookbook

Ravinia Night

Another opportunity for a good time is our annual summer picnic at Ravinia Festival for a concert or movie. Members gather together on the lawn to socialize over drinks and dinner.

Travel and Learn

Experience Israel from a secular perspective. This unique tour, led by Rabbis Adam Chalom and Jeffrey Falick, will explore the issues facing Israel as a Jewish and democratic state. Conflicts between Palestinians and settlers, tensions between ultra-religious and secular Israelis, and social and economic justice are all on this itinerary.

Past Travel and Learn trips have included Philadelphia and Savannah/Charleston. In both of those trips, we looked at the significance of these historical cities as Americans, Jews and Humanists, and we ate very well!
